We will present curvature-free upper bounds for the minimal mass of a stationary 1-cycle on an arbitrary closed Riemannian manifold in terms of the volume and in terms of the diameter of the manifold. At the end of the talk we plan to discuss how our methods might lead to a similar curvature-free upper bounds for the length of the shortest closed geodesic. This is a joint work with Regina Rotman.
