Lehman College Syllabus for College Algebra, MAT104, 2005

Prerequisite: Placement by the COMPASS EXAM.
Text: Aufmann, Barker & Lockwood, Algebra with Trigonometry for College Students, Houghton Mifflin Company 6th Edition
Supplies: A spiral notebook of graph paper for notes. A cheap scientific calculator with buttons for sin, cos, tan, Ln, and Log.
Homework: Approximately 2 hours of homework will be assigned each meeting and additional review assignments will be given on weekends. Most faculty will be checking whether the homework is completed while students do classwork. Answers to the odd problems are in the back of the textbook and should be consulted before proceeding to the next problem.
Math Lab: All students should plan on spending at least an hour a week at the Math Lab in Gillet 222. Some faculty may require proof of attendance.
Grading: There will be three exams and a cumulative final. Instructors may also choose to grade homework. Students who are not prepared to take Precalculus at the end of the semester will not be passed. Students planning to take Precalculus should aim for A's.
