Anderson’s Trick and Homeomorphism groups of self-similar 2-manifolds
Abstract: In this expository talk, I will provide a narrative connecting results from the 50s and 60s regarding the homeomorphism group of the 2-sphere to recent results about the structure of homeomorphism groups of a class of 2-manifolds, the self-similar 2-manifolds. The talk is meant to be accessible to early graduate students.
