Equations over central extensions of hyperbolic groups

Hao Liang (University of Illinois, Chicago)

Abstract: Finding an algorithm to solve equation systems in groups is an old and hard problem. There is no algorithm which solves arbitrary equation systems in arbitrary finitely presented groups. However algorithms have been showed to exist in many important classes of groups. Geometric ideas have been used in solving equations over classes of groups that arise naturally in geometry and topology. In this talk, I will talk about an algorithm which solve equation systems in central extensions of hyperbolic groups.
