Travel Information:

The CUNY Graduate Center is located on 5th Avenue between 34th Street and and 35th Street in Manhattan and is accessible by public transportation from the all the NY-NJ airports (LGA, JFK & EWR). The best way to get around the city is to use New York subways and buses.

The mathematics department is located on the 4th floor of this building. All visitors must sign in at the security gate downstairs, simply tell them you will be attending the conference and show them an ID.

Coming by Subway

The CUNY Graduate Center is located 2 blocks from Penn Station and 10 blocks from Grand Central Station and is thus is easily reached by a short walk from almost any subway line by going to a subway stop near 34th street.


Coming by Air

NYC is conveniently served by three airports, JFK, La Guardia, and Newark.

From Kennedy Airport (JFK)

Taxis: Taxis are available at JFK. The JFK taxi info lists current fares from JFK, including information about the current JFK-Manhattan $45 Flat Fare (as of 25 May 2011).

Air Train and Subway: The Air Train and subway service provides the least expensive ride from JFK. The air train runs from different terminals in the airport to the subway station, and the ride costs $5. First take the Air Train to Station A (known as Howard Beach station). Then take the #A train (subway) to 34th Street Station from which it is a 1/4 mile walk to the Graduate Center. The total travelling time is about 2 hours. When you return to JFK airport, take the #A train to "Howard Beach (JFK)" not the #A train to "Ozone Park-Lefferts Boulevard Branch."

New York Airport Service: Buses run every 20 to 30 minutes between 7:00am and 9:30pm, stopping outside each terminal in turn. The fare is $15 each way. This bus service stops in Manhattan at Penn Station (34th Street) , Grand Central (42nd Street) and the Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd Street). The easiest one is to get off at Penn Station.

From La Guardia Airport (LGA)

Taxis: Taxis are available from LaGuardia airport. The LGA taxi info lists current fares from LGA.

MTA Bus: Take the M60 from any terminal and get off at 125th Street and Broadway. From there take the 1 Subway line downtown to 34th street. The bus ride is about 35 minutes (longer during rush hours) and the bus runs every 20 minutes. The total fare is $2.25, in exact change (coins, no bills) or pass.

From Newark Liberty Airport (NWA)

By Train: First take Air Train (free) to the station where trains leave for New York Penn Station at 34th Street (not the Newark Penn Station) and the price is around $11.50 one way. The ride takes about 30 minutes.

Taxi, Car and Van Service: All terminals have a ground transportation desk which will be able to provide you with a list of Car Service companies. The EWR taxi/car/van info lists current fares from EWR and gives an extensive list of providers along with contact details.
